Accidental Injury or Criminal Elder Abuse?

Accidental Injury or Criminal Elder Abuse?
We are not doctors, so how do we differentiate between accidental injuries sustained by elders and intentional injuries inflicted by caregivers?  How do we know if a pressure sore or malnutrition are proof of neglect, or unavoidable side effects of an elder’s medical conditions?  Learn to recognize forensic markers of criminal physical abuse and the red flags indicating criminal neglect.  Understand the value of expert medical witnesses for proving criminal abuse.  This informative session will be taught by Inspector Andrea Higgens from the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office Elder Abuse Unit.
